Fixion Nails update
Following the NAFD’s involvement in a meeting at the Ministry of Justice to consider the issues surrounding Fixion Nails, the Association has now received a comprehensive list of all the hospitals which either currently implant the devices, or have implanted them at some time since the procedure was first instigated in 2002.
Due to confidentiality restrictions the NAFD is unable to publish the list.UK distributor Biomet UK has given the Association permission to reveal whether a particular hospital implants Fixions, or has previously carried out this procedure, in response to individual NAFD member enquiries.
It is important to note that hospitals which have at some time been involved in implanting Fixion expanding nails but no longer do so may not have retained the tools required to vent them,” says NAFD chief executive officer Alan Slater.
"If an NAFD member is informed that the hospital which originally implanted the Fixion can no longer provide the venting service, we can help by identifying the nearest hospital that should be able to assist.”
The NAFD points out that any hospital which vents Fixion Nails is entitled to charge for this service, so it is important that funeral directors make this clear to bereaved families.
