NAFD girls Race for Life
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK and this year the girls working at the NAFD’s National Office joined 2,500 women at the start of Cancer Research UK’s first ever Race for Life in Solihull.
Since 1994, women of all ages and fitness levels have come together at these inspiring events to walk, jog or run 5k to help beat cancer. While some take part to celebrate surviving a cancer experience, others do so in memory of a loved one or to give hope to a cancer-free future, but all share a common goal – to raise money for Cancer Research UK. To date 4.7 million women have raised over £370 million to fund the charity’s lifesaving work.
Everyone was resplendent in pink as they made their way around Solihull’s picturesque Malvern and Brueton Parks. The NAFD’s sextet was aiming to complete the race inside 50 minutes but all managed to beat this time: it was Tracy who crossed the line first in just 38 minutes, with Gill and Gail following her home in 40 minutes and Angela, Su and Joan coming through in 45 minutes.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of NAFD members the girls raised £1380 and enjoyed the experience so much that they are already planning to take part again in 2011.
