NAFD launches new ‘qualified’ tutor training programme

The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) is offering funeral professionals the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised teaching qualification which will entitle them to deliver NAFD qualifications.

Any funeral director who is interested in becoming a ‘qualified’ tutor, providing they meet the required criteria, can register for the new programme of blended learning. This comprises a series of tutor-led face-to-face workshops, individual and peer learning plus access to a wealth of online learning materials approved by the national Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

Prospective tutors must hold the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing, be a full member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors and either own, or be employed by, a Category A (funeral firm) member of the NAFD. They will also need to demonstrate that they have at least two years’ experience in an appropriate role in the funeral service plus a working knowledge of repatriation, exhumation and burial at sea.

The first training programme commences in March 2011 and culminates in the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS). All those who complete the 18-month programme and attain the CTLLS standards automatically become self-employed NAFD Approved Tutors, responsible for the successful delivery of NAFD qualifications and compliance with quality assurance processes.

The closing date for registration on the March 2011 tutor training programme is Monday, 31 January 2011. From March 2011 onwards there will be two entry dates per year – March and September.
