Tremendous support for NAFD’s Yorkshire Educational Social Weekend
This year’s Yorkshire Educational & Social Weekend proved as popular as ever, with over 100 people making the trip to Scarborough to improve their funeral industry knowledge and spend time relaxing with family and friends.
The education programme began with an illuminating presentation by Dr Brian Parsons entitled Pioneers of Preservation, which traced the development of embalming in 20th century Britain and name checked many familiar families within the profession.
Former regular soldier Shane Monkman discussed the work of the charity Help for Heroes and certainly struck a chord with the audience, many of whom have family or friends serving in the Armed Forces overseas and are all too aware of the conditions in which they serve and the everyday dangers they face.
Robert Gray and Deborah Rafique-Sane from Phoenix Memorials rounded off the education sessions by giving delegates an insight into the methods used to incorporate cremated remains into glass.
Alison Waite and Alastair Huteson also organised a variety of entertainment, including an excellent dinner on the Saturday evening, at which MP for Scarborough and North Yorkshire Robert Goodwill and his wife were special guests.
The charity raffle and auction plus a further sale of items staged during the weekend netted an impressive £2,000 in aid of Help for Heroes
